Airfix Launches 1:48 Scale RAF Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B Kit with New Parts and Armaments!

The much-anticipated RAF variant of the 1:48 scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B is now available from Airfix! This iconic aircraft, known for its exceptional capabilities and unique design, has finally landed in its RAF configuration, giving model enthusiasts the opportunity to build their own tribute to this British marvel of aviation.

Flying in at a skill level 4, the 1:48 scale A12014 Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B contains various new parts specifically designed to recreate the RAF variant. With 320 parts in total, this kit offers plenty of intricate detail to satisfy even the most discerning model builder.

What sets this kit apart are the 4 different schemes included, spanning a period from 1971 to 1993. These schemes showcase a range of camouflages and liveries, allowing builders to recreate the distinctive look of the RAF Buccaneers throughout their service life. From the sleek and stealthy to the rugged and battle-hardened, there's a scheme to suit every taste and preference.

One of the highlights of the kit is the inclusion of new armaments. Model builders can equip their Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B with an array of deadly weapons, including 4 Sea Eagle Missiles, 1 Paveway II LGB, 1 Sidewinder, 1 Pave Spike, and 1 AN/ALQ-101 ECM Pod. These armaments add an extra layer of realism and excitement to the finished model, allowing builders to showcase the true versatility and firepower of the legendary aircraft.

The Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B holds a special place in aviation history. Despite initially being an aircraft that the Royal Air Force didn't really want, it proved itself to be an exceptionally capable machine. The aircraft had several differences from its seaborne counterparts and was designated S.Mk.2B. The RAF reluctantly accepted the naval aircraft, but it wasn't long before the camouflaged Buccaneers began to impress. They showcased their superior performance capabilities, demonstrating that this was definitely not a second-rate aircraft option.

The Buccaneer's journey with the Royal Air Force started seven years after it had entered service with the Royal Navy. The Blackburn Company received an initial order for 26 new aircraft specifically for the RAF. These RAF machines featured design alterations and improvements, further enhancing their capabilities and adaptability.

As the years went by, the Buccaneer continued to impress both aircrews and enthusiasts alike. Its rugged design and powerful engines made it highly effective in low-level strikes and precision bombing missions. It played a crucial role during the Falklands War, proving its worth as a formidable attack aircraft. By the time they were scheduled for retirement, the RAF was reluctant to let go of their beloved Buccaneers.

The release of the RAF variant of the 1:48 scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B kit from Airfix pays homage to this legendary aircraft and its significant place in British aviation history.
