Airfix Unveils A02050V Brewster Buffalo: The Classic WWII Fighter Plane in a New Scale Model Kit
Despite its ungainly appearance, the Brewster Buffalo was one of the most significant aircraft in US aviation history and one which would see heavy combat use during the early months of WWII.
The winner of a fly-off competition with the Grumman Wildcat to provide the US Navy with a new, modern carrier-based monoplane fighter, the Buffalo incorporated a host of advanced design features, including many to support its operation from the deck of US aircraft carriers. The fighter would also attract strong international sales support, with Britain, Finland and the Netherlands all operating the Buffalo during WWII, particularly with the Commonwealth Air Forces facing the Japanese in Southeast Asia.
With moulds which were run for the first time in 1972 and a project which benefited from the significant artistic talents of Mr Roy Cross, this new kit was an instant success following release and underlined the continuation of the impressive subject diversity Airfix have always been famous for. The first issue of this kit was received in the early form of the poly bag and header card, later to be concealed in the more traditional boxed kit.
Ranked at skill level 1, the Vintage Classic Brewster Buffalo offers 42 parts and 2 build schemes, which are the only schemes that Airfix have ever produced with the Brewster Buffalo. With an overall length measuring 112mm and a wingspan of 148mm, the kit includes the following schemes:
Scheme A: Brewster B-339E Buffalo Mk.I, No.67 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Mingaladon, Rangun, Burma, early 1942.
Scheme B: Brewster F2A-2 Buffalo, Third Section Leader, US Navy Fighter Squadron VF-2, USS Lexington, 1941.
