Gladiators Return: A Thrilling Clash of Strength and Speed

Get ready to witness the ultimate test of strength and speed as Gladiators, the exhilarating sports entertainment gameshow, makes its triumphant return to TV on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The iconic competition pits contenders against 16 phenomenal Gladiators in a series of new challenges and classic games, promising action, drama, and adrenaline-fueled excitement.

Leading the charge as hosts are none other than Bradley and Barney Walsh, a charismatic father-son duo who bring their unique blend of charm and wit to the Gladiators arena. But what many don't know is that Gladiators has always been a family affair for the Walsh clan.

Donna Walsh, Barney's mum and Bradley's wife, played a pivotal role as the head choreographer for the Gladiator cheerleaders on the original series. This connection runs deep, as both Bradley and a young Barney were regular visitors on set, with Barney even taking some of his first steps on the iconic arena floor.

But it seems that Barney's early exposure to the Gladiators wasn't enough to satisfy the Walsh family's thirst for pulse-pounding action. Bradley himself followed in his son's footsteps and took part in a Celebrities vs Jockeys special back in 1997, proving that the Gladiators spirit runs through their veins.

The eagerly anticipated new series kicks off on Saturday, 13th January 2024, at 5:50 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Viewers can expect a thrilling lineup of Gladiators, each with their own unique set of skills and larger-than-life personas. From the formidable Apollo and the cunning Athena to the explosive Dynamite and the lightning-fast Viper, these Gladiators will stop at nothing to claim victory.

Providing the exhilarating voiceover commentary for the show is Guy Mowbray, a renowned top-flight football commentator. His expert analysis and passionate delivery will take viewers right into the heart of the action, adding an extra layer of excitement to this already gripping competition.

Leading the charge as referees are Mark Clattenburg, Sonia Mkoloma, and Lee Phillips. With their keen eyes and sharp judgement, they ensure that every move is fair and every challenge is met with the utmost integrity.

The new series was filmed at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, providing a stunning backdrop for the epic battles that are about to unfold.
