Idris Elba's Luther: The Fallen Sun Set to Hit Netflix on 10th March, 2023

Good news, folks – Detective Chief Inspector John Luther is officially back! After five seasons of the award-winning series, Idris Elba's brooding detective is taking on an even bigger, bolder game of cat and mouse in Luther: The Fallen Sun.

Directed by Jamie Payne with a script by creator Neil Cross, the new movie is set to hit Netflix on 10th March, 2023, and it looks like it's going to be one wild ride. In it, Luther finds himself behind bars after crossing a line in his pursuit of justice. "He's done so much to bend the law in order to catch the bad guys that he's ended up in jail," Elba said in an interview with Tudum, Netflix's sister site. "That's where we start the story."

But of course, Luther can't help but get involved when a bad guy is on the loose. "This old case that didn't really ever get solved creeps up back into his life," Elba explained. "And John can't help but find a way to get involved. This bad guy is out there and he has to go out and get him."

It's clear that Luther: The Fallen Sun will be a thrilling new chapter in the beloved character's story. Payne added that it introduces a new take on the character, dropping him into a situation he's never been in before. "Luther's an unstoppable force," he said. "But up to this point, he's had to tread around the law of the police, because that was his job. Now, he's a fugitive. This is Luther untethered. This man is so forward in his thinking and is in action. He's like a wrecking ball, but the smartest wrecking ball you've ever met in your life."

Besides Elba, the movie also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk. And while the story is shrouded in mystery (expect some unexpected twists and turns, folks!), one thing is for sure: Luther is ready to take on a new challenge – and catch a killer.

So get ready, London – your favorite detective is back on the case!
