Milly Alcock Takes Flight as Supergirl in the DC Universe

DC Universe fans, get ready, there's a new Supergirl in town! Deadline has reported that Milly Alcock, known for her role in 'House of the Dragon,' has been cast as the iconic character. This exciting announcement was later confirmed by James Gunn himself via a posting on Instagram.

James Gunn didn't hold back his enthusiasm for Alcock, calling her a "fantastically talented young actor." He expressed his excitement about her joining the DCU and praised her auditions and screen tests for the role. Alcock perfectly embodies the vision of Kara, as imagined by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.

Alcock's portrayal of Supergirl will be based on the character as envisioned by the acclaimed comic book series 'Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow,' which was released in 2022. While there is speculation about Supergirl appearing in James Gunn's 'Superman Legacy,' nothing has been confirmed yet. However, we can look forward to seeing Alcock's Supergirl in a DC-based project prior to her solo film, 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.'

One thing that sets Supergirl apart from Superman is her upbringing, as highlighted by James Gunn. Superman was raised on Earth by loving parents, while Milly's Supergirl has endured a harsher upbringing on Krypton before coming to Earth. Gunn described her as "much more hardcore" and stated that she isn't exactly the Supergirl we're used to seeing.

Milly Alcock has skyrocketed to fame with her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in 'House of the Dragon,' which earned her a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination. She now joins the ranks of other talented actresses who have donned the Supergirl cape, including Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, Melissa Benoist, and Sasha Calle.

We can't wait to see Milly Alcock take flight as Supergirl and bring her own unique spin to the beloved character. Stay tuned for more updates on 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' and the future of the DC Universe!
