Reclaim Weekend at Eden: Nurturing Mental Health and Saving the Planet
The Eden Project is back with its popular Reclaim weekend, promising a diverse range of activities that focus on mental health and planetary wellbeing. Scheduled to take place on the weekend of January 27-28, 2024, Reclaim offers a unique blend of reflective workshops, intriguing tours, and thought-provoking talks, all designed to support the wellbeing of both individuals and the environment.
This second edition of Reclaim follows the success of the inaugural event held in January 2023. Building on that triumph, this year's weekend promises even more engaging sessions and speakers that will leave attendees inspired and enlightened.
Reimagining Food Culture and Environmental Dialogues
One of the highlights of Saturday, January 27, is a talk by popular chef, YouTuber, and author Gaz Oakley. Gaz will share empowering advice on embracing a plant-based diet, drawing from his own experiences. He will also discuss his journey from the bustling city life of London to finding solace in the Welsh countryside.
Another captivating speaker on Saturday morning is Serge Attukwei Clottey, a Ghanaian artist known for his remarkable installations, performances, and sculptures. Clottey uses everyday and found objects to create thought-provoking artworks that intersect with politics, culture, history, and the environment. His work, made primarily from re-used yellow Kufour gallons, is currently on display in Eden's Acts of Gathering exhibition until April 2024.
Tackling Climate Change with Football and Embracing Sobriety
On Sunday, January 28, Elliot Arthur-Worsop, founder of Football For Future, will share a powerful message in his talk titled 'Can Football Save the World?'. Arthur-Worsop will explore the idea that the global passion for football can contribute to combating the climate crisis.
Also on January 28, visitors will have the chance to hear from Steph Elswood, a wellness advocate, professional dancer, and co-founder of Dry Disco Sober Festival events. Elswood will join Millie Gooch, founder of Sober Girl Society, to discuss the relationship between sobriety, body image, mental health, and finding joy in everyday life.
Transformative Workshops and Inspiring Exhibitions
Throughout the weekend, attendees can participate in transformative vegetable gardening workshops for beginners. Seasoned gardening experts will guide participants through their first steps in growing their own produce, sharing valuable advice on garden planning and providing hands-on demonstrations.
Creative workshops will also be available, allowing visitors to unleash their artistic talents and create clay sculptures inspired by nature. Led by artist Anna Harris, these sessions will contribute to Maria Nepomuceno's Você me alimenta (You feed me) exhibition, which is part of the Acts of Gathering exhibition in Eden's Core Gallery.
An Exhibition to Challenge Our Relationship with Food
As part of the Reclaim weekend, Eden Project offers tours of the Acts of Gathering exhibition. This exhibition celebrates and interrogates the evolving food culture and its connection to our world. Showcasing artworks that explore the ceremonies, symbolism, and social impact of food, this exhibition invites us to reflect on our relationship with food, each other, and the earth.
A Sustainable Shopping Experience
Reclaim weekend also provides an opportunity to shop sustainably at a vintage kilo sale, in collaboration with Wild Pony Vintage and Urban Apparel. Instead of traditional pricing, shoppers pay based on the weight of their chosen items, promoting the concept of saying 'no' to fast fashion and embracing more environmentally-friendly shopping habits.
Free Entry for Young People
The Eden Project, as an educational charity, aims to engage with young people. In line with this mission, free entry to the Reclaim weekend will be available for 17-25-year-olds and students, ensuring that the event reaches a wider audience and inspires the next generation to take care of their mental health and the planet.
Don't miss out on this incredible weekend of self-reflection, inspiration, and environmental awareness. For more details and ticket bookings, visit the Eden Project website.
