Rick Stein's Food Stories: Exploring the Evolution of British Culinary Culture

Rick Stein, renowned chef and culinary explorer, is embarking on an exciting new adventure with his upcoming series, Rick Stein's Food Stories. Commissioned by BBC Two and produced by Shine TV and Rick Stein Productions, this mouth-watering 15-part series will take viewers on a captivating cookery pilgrimage across the UK.

Stein's mission is to delve into the heart of British culinary culture and uncover how it has evolved in the 21st century. From the picturesque Lake District to the breathtaking landscapes of Argyll, from the vibrant city of Belfast to the serene Gower Peninsula, Stein will traverse the country to meet the pioneering individuals shaping the British food scene.

Stein's journey will lead him to those who strive to perfect traditional dishes like the iconic Yorkshire pudding, as well as the chefs and producers who introduce new flavours and tastes inspired by cuisines from around the world. From his beloved home in Cornwall, Stein will also share his personal favourite dishes that he believes deserve a place in the nation's cook book.

Reflecting on the remarkable changes in culinary preferences during his over 50-year career, Stein remarks, "When I started out as a chef, prawn cocktails, steak Diane, and Black Forest Gateau were the reigning stars. Today, the culinary landscape is incredibly diverse. Sushi has become one of our most popular takeaway lunches, Indian street food has replaced the typical Balti, and chefs are increasingly mindful of the environment, creating innovative dishes using locally foraged or sustainably farmed ingredients. The power of food to bring communities together is evident, and reevaluating which dishes best represent our modern tastes is a thought-provoking journey in itself."

Matt Bennett, Senior Executive Producer at Shine TV, expresses delight in collaborating with Rick Stein once again, following the success of their previous series in Cornwall. Together, they are thrilled to craft a new series for BBC Two that celebrates the diverse talents and rich culinary landscape of the UK.

Rachel Platt, Commissioning Editor at BBC Daytime & Early Peak, commends Stein's ability to tell a compelling food story. With his natural curiosity, warmth, and eloquence, Stein brings to life the work of the UK's growers, producers, chefs, and cooks, offering viewers a delectable feast for the senses.
