Royal Mail Unveils X-Men Stamps to Celebrate 60th Anniversary!
As the X-Men franchise celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023, Royal Mail has unveiled a special set of X-Men commemorative stamps to mark the occasion!
The stamps are a great example of how philately, or the study of postage stamps and postal history, can bring together two distinct groups in a meaningful way. Not only will the X-Men stamps be a great addition to any stamp collection, but they also represent an opportunity for stamp collectors to connect with a beloved brand. Furthermore, the X-Men stamps provide a unique glimpse into the history of the X-Men franchise and give stamp collectors something special to appreciate and add to their collection.
The 17-stamp set pays tribute to some of the most iconic characters from the comic book franchise since it first debuted in 1963. The 12 stamps in the main set feature original illustrations created exclusively for Royal Mail by renowned British comic book artist Mike McKone. These include Professor X, Kitty Pryde, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee, Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Iceman, Storm, Beast and Rogue.
In addition, there’s a set of five stamps featured in a miniature sheet that were illustrated exclusively for Royal Mail by Eisner-Award-nominated artist, Lee Garbett. These feature some of the mutant enemies faced by the X-Men, such as Juggernaut, Mystique, Magneto, Emma Frost and Sabretooth.
These stamps are proof that MARVEL, one of the world’s most prominent character-based entertainment companies with a catalogue of iconic Super Hero characters, is still a popular force 60 years later.
The stamps are available to pre-order from today at www.royalmail.com/xmen and by phone on 03457 641 641. The full set of 17 stamps will be available on general sale from 16 February, priced at £16.35.
David Gold, Director of External Affairs & Policy, Royal Mail, said: “Generations have grown up, enamoured by the adventures and the personalities of the X-Men and their enemies. We celebrate the X-Men Universe with these stylish new stamps featuring some of its iconic characters.”
